Clay County was named for General Green Clay, 1757-1826. General Clay held back the British and Indians in a battle during the War of 1812.

Marker # 908 Chief Red Bird

Chief Red Bird was Cherokee Indian was friendly with early settlers. He was killed in battle protecting his furs.
