Historical Sites

Christian County 

  • Christian College was named for Colonel William Christian, who served during the American Revolution. 

  • The county was formed from Logan County .  

 

  • Marker # 1269 Bethel College

This school was organized by The Bethel Baptist Association and opened in 1854 as Bethel Female High School . 

 

  • Marker # 1045 First Presbyterian

The church was organized in 1813.  Rev. Gideon Blackbum was missionary to the Cherokee Indians. 

 

  • Marker # 882 Union General’s Grave

Located in Hopkinsville , Brigadier General James S. Jackson, union soldier who was killed in the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862.  He is buried in the south end of Riverside Cemetery .  He was sent by United States President Abraham Lincoln to recruit for the Kentucky 3rd Calvary during the fall of 1861.
