Caldwell County

  • Caldwell County was named for General John Caldwell who served during the George Roger Clark Indian campaign. He served as Lt. Governor, with Governor Greenup.

 

  •   The county was formed out of Livingston County. 

 

  • Marker # 145  Black Patch War

 This marker is located in Princeton, KY.  December 1, 1906, marked the beginning of the Black Patch War which lasted until the end of 1908.  “Night Riders” fought against non-cooperative farmers and business who opposed the dark tobacco pool.   

 

  • Marker # 1453 Cumberland Presbyterian College

 The site of this college is in Princeton, KY. It was founded in 1826, by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Each student was required to work 2 hours a day on a farm. Those seeking to inter into the ministry were able to take theology classes. This school merged in 1858 with Cumberland University, which is in Lebanon, Tennessee.
