Greenup County - Civil War - Union, Camp Swigert

Marker # 2247 Camp Swigert

Located in Wurland , Kentucky it was a Union Civil War training camp that was organized on December 12, 1861. It became a center for volunteer enlistees under the leadership of Colonel D. W. Lindsey. The recruitments were from surrounding counties. Frankfort and Louisville were assigned to form the 22^nd Regiment of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. Both African Americans and White infantrymen were station at Camp Swigert .
