Graves County - Bayou de Chine Church

Marker # 1597 Bayou de Chine Church

This church located 2 ½ miles east of Water Valley , KY. It was named after a stream which flows nearby. This church is the oldest of Mayfield Presbytery. It was organized in 1826. The original log church was used until 1866. During the American Civil War, a CSA camp was located nearby at Camp Beauregard . An epidemic swept the Confederate camp, and the hospital served as a hospital. Many soldiers are buried in this community graveyard at the site of the camp.
