# 1733 Birthplace of Carry A. Nation With a hatchet in her hand, this famous Kentuckian harassed
saloon owners across this nation. Lady with the Hatchet, Carry Nation gave direction to the
anti-liquor movement, which led to Prohibition, 1920-1933.
She was mostly driven by bitterness from her first marriage to an
alcoholic. Carry’s methods
however, landed her in jail some thirty times.
She died in 1911 and was buried in
