Garrard County - Paint Lick Presbyterian Church  

 

Marker # 1562 Paint Lick Presbyterian Church

Paint Lick Presbyterian Church was founded in 1784 by Rev. David Rice.  Early Elders of the church include:  Thomas Maxwell, Alexander Henderson, James Woods, Samuel Woods, Robert Brank, George Denny, Robert Henry.  Paint Lick Presbytery was first located where Paint Lick Cemetery is now.  The second building erected in 1830 on present site.  The present building was erected in 1875.   

In Paint Lick Cemetery , there are soldiers from both the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War.  The Revolutionary soldiers include:  Thos. Kennedy, John Slavin, John Courtney, Robert Brank, Walter Burnside, William Miller, Humphrey Bates, and John Provine.  The last was a charter member of Paint Lick Presbyterian Church, and his is the oldest marked grave in cemetery, dated at 1792.
