Gallatin County - Kentucky Governor from Warsaw

This is the birthplace of Richard Yates. Yates served in the Illinois Legislature for three terms, then served in the United States Congress, 1851-1855. Serving as the Governor of Illinois, 1861-1865. He then served as a member of the United States Senate, 1865-1871. Yates was a delegate to conventions that nominated Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant for Presidency. Yates died in 1873. One of his sons, also served as the governor of Illinois, 1901-1904.
