Historical Sites

Floyd County

Floyd County was named for Colonel John Floyd who led a survey team through Kentucky in 1774. Col. John Floyd traveled with George Rogers Clark’s Indian expeditions. He later joined the Colonial Navy, was then captured and taken to England. He later escaped. He is responsible for the building of Floyd’s Station, in the area that is now Louisville, Kentucky.

The county was formed in 1800.
