Marker # 2230  Boone’s Station

Daniel Boone surveyed this site in 1774 for a 4,000 acre land grant to James Hickman. In December of 1779, Boone and other families lived here, in 1780, he built cabins and stockade. By 1783, the station included 15 to 20 families, among these were Daniel Boone’s brother Edward, his son Israel, and nephew Thomas; who were all killed during the American Revolutionary War.

Daniel Boone lived in the station until 1784, and his sister’s family lived here until 1814.  Robert Frank bought the land in 1795, building a stone mansion. In 1991, Robert C. Strader willed the station over to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  One year later, Boone’s Station State Park opened.
