Confederate Soldier Monument in Lexington  

Confederate States of America, (Confederate Veterans Association) and names of 160 Confederate soldiers buried in Lexington Cemetery.

Marker # 4 Confederate States of America, President Jefferson Davis

For three years (1821-1824) while Jefferson Davis was a student at Transylvania University, he lived with Joseph Ficklin who at the time was the Postmaster of Lexington.  Jefferson Davis afterwards, became the President of the Confederate States of America. 

 

Marker # 1809 John Hunt Morgan (1825-1864)  

Morgan was known as the “Thunderbolt of the Confederacy.”  He was born in Huntsville, Alabama, an in 1831 he moved to Lexington.  After attending Transylvania University, he fought in the Mexican War.  While in Lexington, he proposed as owner of hemp factory and woolen mill, he organized Lexington Rifles Infantry in 1857.  Later leading these men to aid the Confederacy.   

General John Hunt Morgan Memorial, Lexinton Kentucky

General J.H. Morgan (1825-1864) lead his cavalry into battle disrupting Union supplies and communications.  For the southerners, he was the ideal romantic hero.  He was captured in the Indiana-Ohio raid, he escaped and was killed in Greenville, Tennessee on September 4, 1864.  He was buried in The Lexington Cemetery. 

 

Marker # 3 Morgan House

This is the home of John Hunt Morgan, “Thunderbolt of the Confederacy.”  He served as a Lieutenant in the Kentucky Volunteers in the Mexican War (1846-1847), and as Major General in the Confederate States of America (1861-1864).
