Historical Sites

Boyle County 

The county was named for Judge John Boyle (1774-1834).  He served as state representative in 1800, U.S. Congress in 1803-1809, then as Kentucky Court of Appeals, Chief Justice 1810-1826, and then as U.S. District Judge for Kentucky 1826-1834. 

The county was the 94th county to be made, being formed from Mercer and Lincoln, with Danville being named as the county seat.

Marker # 553 Battle of Perryville, October 8, 1862      

 This was one the most important battles of the American Civil War.

 

Marker # 1705 Lottie Moon (1840-1912)

Lottie Moon was a Southern Baptist missionary who spend nearly forty years in China. Lottie Moon was a member of The First Baptist Church, Danville, Kentucky.  She taught at Caldwell Female Institute, later to become part of Centre College. Lottie Moon’s life of missionary service inspired the Christmas offering for The Southern Baptist International Mission Board’s Christmas’ offering. 

 

Marker # 1376 Old Crow Inn

This is the oldest existing stone house in Kentucky, built in 1784. 

 

Marker # 1772  Pioneer Methodist Preacher

Rev. Francis Clark organized the first Methodist Society in Kentucky, 1783.  This group formed Methodist Episcopal Church, established in 1784. 

 

Marker # 197 School for the Deaf

In 1823, Kentucky founded the first state founded school found within all of The United States, for the instruction of deaf children. 

 

Marker # 1442 Trinity Episcopal Church

 Erected in 1830, is one of the oldest church in Danville, KY.
