Ballard County - County Named

Marker # 826 County Named, 1842

The county was named for Captain Bland Ballard, (1759-1853). Ballard had devoted his life to protecting the frontier land. He served as a scout in the George Rogers Clark’s Ohio expedition, 1780. Then also during the Wabash campaign, 1786, and in the battles of Fallen Timbers, 1793, Tippecanoe, 1811. He was wounded in the battle of River Raisin, during the War of 1812. He is buried in the Frankfort Cemetery.
