Southern Kentucky
Cumberland Shadow - Harlan Description - The trail is strenuous but worth the ride. There are great views of Martins Fork Lake and Stone Mountain. There are also primitive camping spots located all along the trail. Direction - From Louisville take I-64 east to Lexington and then take I-75 south to Corbin and then take 25 east to Pineville to HWY 119 east and follow to Harlan. From Harlan take US 421 south about 10 miles to the community of Cawood. From Cawood turn right on KY HWY 987. Go 5 miles to Martins Fork Lake. The south trailhead is about 100 yards past Martins Fork lake on the right. The north trailhead is near the dam.
Sal Hollow - Mammoth Cave Description - Located in the Mammoth Cave National Park, the trail is smooth and consists of some rocky areas. Beginners will be fine on this trail and may want to walk the rocky areas. Directions - Take I-65 south to exit 48 for Park City. Then go north following the signs to the main entrance for Mammoth Cave Park. Look for Green River Ferry sign and take a left before you get there to the visitors center. Take the ferry across the river, its free and carries about three vehicles at a time. After you cross, go about 3 miles until you see the Maple Springs Group Campground on your left. Go a bit further and there will be parking on the left, the trailheads are across from the parking area.
Youngers Creek - Elizabethtown Description - Six miles of trails, with possible future plans to expand and improve the trails and parking. Directions - Take exit 10 off the Bluegrass Parkway and turn north on to Route 52. Take a left on Route 62 and then another left on to Old Youngers Road (KY 583). Look for Miller Rd. and turn right which will take you to the parking area.
