Breaks Interstate Park:

Called the "Grand Canyon of the South"  it is located 30 miles southeast of Pikeville on KY/VA 80. The Breaks Interstate Park in one of two interstate parks in America and encompasses 4,500 acres of woodland. It is home of the Pow Wow Cave, used by the Shawnee Indians and those who loved mystery and adventure. 

For visitors, the park offers hiking, bike trails, driving trails, picnic and recreation areas, a lake with pedal boats, a swimming pool, horseback riding and an amphitheater. 

There is a rustic lodge, cottages and a large campground are available for extended visits. There is also a modern conference center, restaurant, gift shop and visitor's center. 

The Park entrance fee is $1.00 per car and $2.00 per bus. Lodging is open from March 30 through December 1. High speed internet access is available. There are non-smoking and smoking rooms available. There are 82 rooms available and one 2-room suite. Pets are allowed for a fee of $7.00 per night, and per pet. Individual rates start at $67.00 per night at a double occupancy rate. Each person is an additional $8.00 and children 10 are free. Group rates are a minimum of 10 rooms and are good Monday-Thursday only. Rates are $52.00 for one person and $57.00 for two. 

Cottages are open yearly. There are two bedroom cottages rented weekly. Cottages are $525.00 per week up to four people. Guests can rent up to 10 people maximum. There is a charge of $30.00 per week for the additional person. Reservations are required for the cottage rentals. 

The campground is open from March 30 through October 31. Tent sites cost $12.00 per night per site. Sites with electricity, water and sewer are available, these sites range in prices between $14.00 and $18.00. Guests are allowed two vehicles and one camping unit per site, with up to six people. There is also golf cart rentals at $10.00 per hour or at $35.00 per day and must be returned nightly. 

Picnic shelters are available to accommodate large groups and reservations are accepted year to date. Call ahead for rates. There is a swimming pool and rates are $5.00 per adult and children (2-10) are $3.00 and any children under 2 years are free. Pedal boat rentals are available from March 30 through October 31. Rental fees are per half an hour at $4.00 and for one hour it is at $6.00.
