Red River Gorge Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest, it has three main areas for hikers to enjoy. Take the Mountain Parkway to the Slade, Kentucky exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp turn left to proceed to the Red River Gorge area. After you cross under the overpass you will come to a 'T' in the road. This is KY 15, turning left will take you to the Nada Tunnel area, turning right will take you to the Tunnel Ridge Road Area (also known as Grays Arch), Auxier Ridge, Double Arch, Koomer Ridge Campground, Chinmey Top/Sky Bridge Area (which, includes Chimney Top Rock, Half Moon Rock, Princess Arch, Sky Bridge, Rock Bridge). To reach Nada Tunnel, turn left onto KY 15 that will go in the direction of Stanton, Kentucky. At Stanton turn right on to KY 77. Go through the tunnel until you reach the Iron Bridge. Turn left on Service Rd. 23. The road will come to a 'T' gravel road. There is a good primitive camping site on this road, the best is on the right. Some sites you find along the small stream. To reach the Tunnel Ridge Road turn right on KY 15 and proceed about 2.5 miles up a long incline until you see a small country store. A short distance from the store on the left is Tunnel Ridge Road. This gravel road had many good camping site. The Grays Arch parking area is about 1.5 miles up on the left. Another 2.5 miles will take you to the Auxier Ridge/Courthouse Rock parking area. Continuing down the road you will dead end into the Double Arch Trail Head. Koomer Ridge Campground is about 2 mile past the Tunnel Ridge Rd on KY 15. This facility has several 'car camping' trailer/tent sites. There are also outhouses, drinking water, and picnic areas available. All sites are for those who are first, and drinking water is only available during the summer season which is mid-April through October. To reach the Chimney Top/Sky Bridge Area continue about 2.5 miles to Pine Ridge. Just past the Sky Bridge Motel, KY 715 intersects KY 15 on the left. Turn left, a short distance on the right will be a gravel road which will lead to Rock Bridge. Continuing on KY 715 for about 2 miles, you will come to Chimney Top Road. Turn left to reach Chimney Top, Princess Arch and Half Moon Rock. Continue on KY 715 about 2 miles more, turn left at the Sky Bridge Rd. Follow this road to Sky Bridge Picnic area. From the picnic area Sky Bridge is a small walk. If you are planning on camping in the Gorge and you are not going to use a campground, there will be an overnight parking fee. The fee depends on how many nights you will be camping and will be enforced. The fee schedule is : 1 Day - $3.00 3 Days - $5.00 7 Days - $7.00 Yearly - $30.00 Note: It is now illegal to camp within of the base of any cliff, or the back of any rockshelter. The does not mean along the ridges. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire within 100 feet of the base of any cliff, or the back of any rockshelter.
